Contraceptive Methods

Guidance and contraceptive methods (pills, injection and more) to decide with clear information, in Spanish.

  • Personalized guidance
  • Birth control pills and injection
  • Method start and follow-up
  • Care in Spanish

Choosing birth control depends on your health, your plans and your lifestyle. There is no single "best" method for everyone. At Clínica Hispana Mangum the clinic's medical team explains the options in Spanish or English, reviews your health and helps you start the method that works best for you.

Which methods do we offer at the clinic?

  • Birth control pills: one a day, at the same time.
  • Birth control shot: one injection every 3 months.
  • Guidance on long-acting methods such as the implant or IUD.

How effective are they?

With typical everyday use, according to the CDC:

MethodPregnancies per 100 women in a year
Implant or IUDFewer than 1
ShotAbout 4
PillsAbout 7
Male condomAbout 13

The difference is forgetting: the shot does not depend on remembering every day.

Before you start

The medical team checks your blood pressure and asks whether you smoke, have migraines with aura or a history of blood clots, because some pills are not recommended in those cases.

Good to know

  • Pills and the shot do not protect against sexually transmitted infections; condoms do.
  • If you had unprotected sex, over-the-counter emergency contraception works best the sooner it is taken, ideally within 72 hours.
  • If you miss pills or are late for your shot, use condoms and ask us what to do.

We are at 2912 Mangum Rd, Suite A, in northwest Houston, open every day from 9 AM to 9 PM. No insurance needed; ask for the price before your visit. We accept cash, cards and Apple Pay.
