Wound Care

A wound that is not cared for properly can get infected or take weeks to close. At Clínica Hispana Mangum we clean, dress and change bandages, and follow up until the wound heals, no appointment needed.

Which wounds do we care for?

• Scrapes and cuts that do not need stitches.
• Minor burns, first degree or small second degree.
• Wounds after a procedure, such as minor surgery or abscess drainage.
• Slow-healing wounds, especially in people with diabetes or poor circulation.

What is wound care like?

1. Checking the wound and signs of infection.
2. Cleaning with a suitable solution, removing debris or dirt.
3. Applying the right dressing or bandage.
4. A plan for bandage changes and the date of the next check.

Signs of infection

• Redness that spreads or red streaks from the wound.
• Pus, a bad smell or more pain instead of less.
• Warmth in the area or fever.

If any appear, get checked the same day.

Care at home

• Wash your hands before touching the wound.
• Keep the bandage clean and dry; change it if it gets wet or dirty.
• Do not use cotton that leaves lint or put home remedies on it.
• If you have diabetes, check your feet every day and do not wait to have a small wound looked at.

Burns: when to go to the emergency room

Large burns, burns on the face, hands, genitals or joints, electrical or chemical burns, or burns with white or black skin and no pain need emergency care.
