Ultrasound & Sonography

Ultrasound uses sound waves to see inside the body, with no needles and no radiation, which is why it is also safe during pregnancy. At Clínica Hispana Mangum we perform ultrasound studies at the clinic, and the medical team explains what was seen and the next steps.

Which studies do we do?

• Abdominal: liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys and spleen; useful for abdominal pain or gallstones.
• Pelvic: uterus and ovaries; helps check irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, cysts or fibroids.
• Pregnancy: confirms the pregnancy, estimates the weeks and follows progress.
• Thyroid and soft tissue: neck nodules or lumps under the skin.

How do I prepare?

Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove from the area being checked.

What is the study like?

You lie down, warm gel is applied to the skin and the transducer is moved over the area. You may feel some pressure, especially with a full bladder. Most studies take 15 to 30 minutes.

What happens next?

The medical team reviews the images with you. If something needs another study or a specialist, we give you the order or referral.

When not to wait

Severe abdominal pain with fever or vomiting, or heavy bleeding during pregnancy, needs emergency care.
