Urinalysis & Urinary Infection Treatment

Burning when you urinate, needing the bathroom all the time and feeling that your bladder never empties are the typical signs of a urinary tract infection. It is very common, especially in women, and it is easily treated when caught early. At Clínica Hispana Mangum we run the urine test during the visit and, if there is an infection, start treatment that same day.

What are the symptoms?

• Burning or pain when urinating.
• Urgent, frequent need to urinate, even if little comes out.
• Cloudy, bad-smelling or bloody urine.
• Pressure or pain in the lower abdomen.

How is it diagnosed?

With a urinalysis that looks for white blood cells, bacteria and blood. If infections keep coming back, do not improve with treatment or you are pregnant, a culture is sent to identify the bacteria and which antibiotic works.

When is it more serious?

Get care the same day if there is fever, chills, back or side pain, nausea or vomiting: the infection may have reached the kidney. In men, pregnant women, people with diabetes or children, every urinary infection deserves an exam.

How to keep it from coming back

• Drink enough water during the day.
• Do not hold your urine.
• Urinate after sex.
• Finish the whole antibiotic even if you feel better.
