Urology & Men's Health: PSA, Prostate & Urinary Care
Urology in Spanish: prostate PSA, hormone panel, overactive bladder, urine leaks and a general checkup.
- Prostate antigen (PSA)
- Testosterone level
- General men's checkup
- Overactive bladder and urine leaks
- Results explained in Spanish
Many men only see a doctor when something hurts. The problem is that the prostate, blood pressure or blood sugar can change for years without symptoms. At Clínica Hispana Mangum we do your tests with no appointment, and the clinic's medical team explains the results in Spanish or English, clearly and directly.
What does the men's exam include?
- Prostate-specific antigen (PSA): a blood test that helps monitor the prostate.
- Hormone panel: includes the testosterone level when there is fatigue, low energy or mood changes.
- General checkup: blood pressure, weight and vital signs.
- Blood and urine tests based on your age and symptoms.
At what age should I get a PSA test?
The USPSTF recommends that men aged 55 to 69 decide with their medical team whether to get a PSA test, because it has benefits and can also cause false alarms. The American Cancer Society suggests starting the conversation at 45 if you are African American or your father or a brother had prostate cancer before 65, and at 40 if several relatives did.
Which signs should I not ignore?
- A weak urine stream or one that stops and starts.
- Getting up several times at night to urinate.
- Burning, pain or blood when urinating.
- Fatigue that does not improve with rest.
Do you treat an overactive bladder and urine leaks?
Yes, it is part of the urology visit. If you get sudden urges you can barely hold, go to the bathroom every hour or leak a few drops when you cough, lift something heavy or laugh, you do not have to put up with it as "just age". At Clínica Hispana Mangum we go over how much you drink and when, which medications you take and how your prostate is doing, run the urine test right here to rule out an infection and order a PSA when your age or symptoms call for it. Then the medical team sets your treatment for the overactive bladder or the leaks, which you buy on your way out at the clinic's pharmacy, and shows you pelvic-floor exercises and simple changes to evening fluids.
How do I prepare?
- Avoid hard exercise, especially cycling, for 48 hours before the PSA test.
- If you are getting a hormone panel, come in the morning: levels are highest early in the day.
- Bring a list of the medications and supplements you take.
