Flu & COVID Testing and Respiratory Illness Care

Fever, body aches, cough and a sore throat can be flu, COVID-19, a throat infection or a common cold. They look alike, but they are not treated the same way. At Clínica Hispana Mangum we run rapid tests during the same visit, no appointment needed, to find out what you have and start the right treatment.

Which tests do we do?

• Rapid influenza (flu) test.
• Rapid COVID-19 test.
• Throat, ear and lung exam, plus a strep test when suspected.

Why come in early?

Flu antivirals work best when started within the first 48 hours of symptoms, especially for people over 65, pregnant women, young children or people with diabetes, asthma or heart disease.

What treatment do you get?

It depends on the result: an antiviral for flu when indicated, relief for fever, pain and cough, and antibiotics only if there is a bacterial infection. Antibiotics do not work against flu, COVID or colds.

Care at home

• Rest and drink plenty of fluids.
• Stay home until you are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine.
• Cover your cough and wash your hands often.

Warning signs

Trouble breathing, chest pain or pressure, bluish lips, confusion, fever that returns after improving, or in children, fast breathing and refusing fluids. In those cases go to the emergency room or call 911.
