DOT Physical Exam - CDL License

Every driver who operates a commercial vehicle on interstate routes needs a current DOT medical certificate for their CDL. At Clínica Hispana Mangum we do the DOT physical with no appointment and explain each part in Spanish or English.

What does the DOT exam check?

• Medical history: you fill out form MCSA-5875 with your conditions and medications.
• Vision: at least 20/40 in each eye, with or without glasses, and a 70-degree field of vision.
• Hearing: hearing a forced whisper at 5 feet, with or without a hearing aid.
• Blood pressure and pulse.
• Urinalysis: checks for protein, blood or sugar as signs of other problems. It is not a drug test.
• General physical exam: heart, lungs, abdomen, spine and nervous system.

How long is the certificate valid?

Up to 24 months if everything is in order. If a condition needs monitoring, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, the examiner may issue a shorter certificate. With blood pressure at 140/90 or higher, a one-year certificate is common.

What should I bring?

• Your driver's license.
• Glasses or hearing aid, if you use them.
• A list of your medications and doses.
• If you have insulin-treated diabetes, form MCSA-5870 completed by your doctor within the previous 45 days.
• If you have sleep apnea, heart problems or another condition, a recent report from your specialist.

What if something needs attention?

It does not always mean you fail. You may need blood pressure control, an extra medical report or more frequent checks. We explain the next steps in your language.

Is the drug test included?

The DOT physical and the DOT drug test are separate. If your employer requires both, ask about our alcohol and drug testing.

How much does it cost?

You do not need insurance. Ask us for the price before you come; we accept cash, cards and Apple Pay. We are at 2912 Mangum Rd, Suite A, Houston, every day from 9 AM to 9 PM, so you can come before or after your route.
