Wound Suturing

A cut in the kitchen, at work or while playing may need stitches to close properly and leave less of a scar. At Clínica Hispana Mangum we treat wounds with no appointment: we clean them, apply local anesthesia and close them with sutures when needed.

When does a wound need stitches?

• It is longer than 1 to 2 centimeters or gaping, with separated edges.
• It is deep and you can see yellow fat or tissue.
• It is on the face, hands or a joint.
• It keeps bleeding after 10 minutes of pressure.

It is best to come early, ideally within the first hours: the longer you wait, the higher the infection risk and the less suitable it is to close.

What to do on the way

1. Press with a clean cloth without letting go.
2. Rinse with clean water if there is dirt.
3. Do not put home remedies, powders or alcohol inside the wound.

What is the care like?

Wound check, thorough cleaning, local anesthesia, closure with stitches and a bandage. The medical team checks whether your tetanus vaccine is up to date.

When are stitches removed?

Keep the wound dry for the first 24 to 48 hours and get checked if redness spreads or there is pus, warmth or fever.

Go to the emergency room if

Bleeding does not stop with pressure, bone is visible, you lost feeling or movement in a finger, or it is a deep animal bite.
